KNX Systems Integration,
Installation & Commissioning

Specialist KNX Systems Integration

NM Controls provides specialist KNX design, installation, programming and commissioning services for residential, commercial and hospitality projects.

With more than 20 years’ experience working with intelligent control systems, we can support a KNX project from the initial design through to installation, programming, testing and handover. We also work with existing KNX installations, providing fault finding, repairs, modifications and system upgrades.

Based in Edinburgh, we work throughout Scotland and across the UK. Whether you are planning a new KNX installation, extending an existing system or trying to diagnose a problem with an installation already in place, we can provide practical technical support.

What is KNX?

KNX is an open international standard for controlling and automating homes and buildings. It allows different building services and devices to communicate through a common control system rather than relying on multiple independent systems.

KNX can be used to control lighting, heating and HVAC, blinds and shading, energy monitoring, security and access control, room controls and other building services. The system can be designed around the requirements of the building rather than being tied to one manufacturer’s proprietary platform.

One of the major advantages of KNX is interoperability. The KNX ecosystem currently includes more than 500 manufacturers and more than 8,000 certified products, giving system designers a wide choice of devices and technologies.

KNX Design & System Planning

We design KNX control solutions around the building, the services being controlled and the way the occupants will use the system. This can include lighting, heating, HVAC, shading, room control, energy monitoring, access and integration with other building technologies.

KNX Programming & ETS Commissioning

KNX devices and functions are configured and programmed to deliver the required control strategy. We can program new installations and make changes to existing KNX systems.

KNX
Commissioning

Commissioning is an important part of any KNX project. We test devices, communications and programmed functions, identify faults and ensure the system operates as intended before handover.

KNX Fault Finding & Repairs

Existing KNX systems can develop faults through failed devices, communication problems, programming changes or modifications made over time. We can investigate existing installations and identify practical repair options.

KNX Upgrades & Extensions

Existing KNX systems can often be extended or modernised rather than replaced. We can add new devices and functions, update programming, replace obsolete or failed equipment and integrate additional control requirements.

KNX for New Builds, Refurbishments &
Existing Buildings

KNX can be specified for new-build projects, incorporated during refurbishment or used to extend and modernise an existing installation.

For new projects, we can work with the design and installation team to develop the control strategy and deliver the KNX installation and commissioning. For existing buildings, we can assess the current system and identify opportunities for repair, extension or upgrade.

KNX can provide coordinated room and building control for lighting, HVAC, shading, occupancy and other hospitality functions.

KNX Integration with Other Building Systems

KNX does not have to operate as an isolated control system. Depending on the project, it can be integrated with technologies such as DALI, BACnet, Modbus and audio-visual systems. This makes KNX useful as part of a wider building-control strategy, allowing different systems to exchange information and work together.
