What is KNX?

The demand for comfort within homes, offices etc and the management of heating, lighting and access control systems is growing. At the same time, the efficient use of energy is becoming increasingly important. There is a high demand for a comfortable, sustainable and safe place to live and work and that’s where automation jumps in.
KNX is a control system that over 500 manufacturers subscribe to, this means that any manufacturer’s product will work seamlessly with another’s!
WHY DOES THIS MATTER- Over recent years we have seen many issues with the supply of electronic components to individual manufacturers, meaning that if a light dimmer in your control system failed there were long delays getting this replaced. Utilising KNX protocol you have the choice of replacing this with a new dimmer from a different manufacturer knowing that it would work.

KNX controls all aspects of home and building control such as: lighting, heating, cooling and ventilation, blinds/ shutters, security and door communication systems, audio and video, and metering.
KNX can be installed into new or existing developments, be it a new build or retrofit project, residential or commercial. With wired, wireless, IP and powerline communication mediums it is possible to use the system within any building type.

KNX can talk to other systems, it is commonly used as a backbone in linking together proprietary control systems, standardised controls such as: DALI, BACnet, Modbus and AV control systems such as AMX, Crestron or Control4.
